Freeze the evidence request

Freeze the product set, version or release date, deployment model, edition or tier, account scope, and named role first. Then have the named administrator change one synthetic application's display title from Audit fixture A to Audit fixture B in a fixed one-hour UTC window. Every included product must yield a record with actor, timestamp, application or resource, and change/event type; the matching export must identify its format and the same filter scope. Missing any field is unresolved, not a pass or product conclusion.

Treat documentation as documentation

Appsmith's Audit Logs documentation describes actor and resource data, JSON details, tracked event types, and JSON download. Budibase's Audit logs documentation describes filters, downloads based on the current filters, event categories, and a plan boundary. Those are useful documented facts.

They do not establish your account edition, configured roles, needed event capture, retention period, export performance, or regulatory fit. Do not fill those gaps with a score.

Product Current documented export boundary Observed result
Appsmith The cited document describes JSON download, but this review did not inspect an edition, deployment, role, retention setting, or output. Not observed.
Budibase The cited document describes downloads under active filters and says audit logs have a plan boundary, but no tier, deployment, role, retention setting, or output was inspected. Not observed.

These are documentation boundaries, not a feature matrix or product conclusion. The network's comparison methodology requires documented facts, observations, and editorial judgment to remain distinguishable; corrections and later comparable observations should update this method rather than overwrite the source boundary.

Run one equivalent exercise

In authorized non-sensitive accounts, have the same role change the synthetic title from Audit fixture A to Audit fixture B. Locate the event with the one-hour UTC window and fixed application/event filter, export the result, and retain a redacted evidence reference. Record version, deployment model, account tier, scope, role, timezone, actor, timestamp, application or resource, event type, output format, filter values, access path, and result. If either product lacks an equivalent account or any required observation, report the exclusion or unresolved field and end the comparative result—do not substitute documentation or make a one-product ranking.

Keep export separate from retention and integrity

Downloading an event list is different from proving complete capture, retention duration, append-only storage, legal hold, or independent integrity evidence. Ask for each property separately.

Decision checklist

  • Every product receives the same event and role request.
  • Documentation and observed evidence are labeled separately.
  • Product eligibility is frozen; no weighting or score is used until both products have comparable observations.
  • Filter scope, timezone, output format, and access path are recorded.
  • Retention and integrity are explicit or unresolved.
  • No product receives a score before comparable observations exist.

Does a downloadable JSON file prove the log is complete?

No. It establishes only the documented or observed export path. Completeness, event coverage, retention, and integrity need separate evidence.
